I had a hard time deciding what to rate this book... I love the detailed instructions for engaging lessons!  I don't use a lot of the other content.  So my rating (4 stars) is based on what I do use, because I believe its a valuable tool, especially for elementary teachers.

This teaching method operates on the idea that kids need to move their bodies during lessons, repeat things several times out loud, and teach each other.  If you have boys (I have 3 sons) then you know that they need to MOVE - and that's why a lot of active boys tend to stop liking school.  You also know that you have to repeat things 10 trillion times and they still don't get it until you say: Okaaay, now tell me what I just said???? (Before you attack me, I know some boys may not be like this, but my boys are and many boys I've encountered).

Anyways, needless to say - I LOVE the idea of the kids moving around.  I am a staunch believer in brain breaks, hands-on lessons, etc. wherever possible!  And this book gives me the tool to make ANY lecture/instruction HANDS-ON!

I feel that this book is the missing link with Love & Logic teaching.  I LOVE Teaching with Love & Logic.  I agree with their core values and principles 1000%!  This is the reason I don't implement all the behavior systems Whole Brain Teaching (WBT) goes into in this book.   They don't necessarily complement each other, but the beginning of this book and its lessons on teaching engaging lessons are gold.

Teaching with Love & Logic is an amazing set of core values for a teacher and excellent for classroom management, but while L&L stresses relationship (which is most important, I believe!) this book stresses engaging lessons geared toward how children's brains work!  I don't care how much the students in your class love you - they still don't want to be bored!  And that's what I got out of this book - practical tips and strategies on how to teach lessons in a format that help kids retain and how to be playful in the classroom!

Disclaimer: I've seen some people say that its gimmicky and cheesy - but it works for lower grades! Upper elementary to middle grade?? The lecturing style is still awesome.  Upper grades?? I find less plausible.

Lots of resources and videos on their website: here.  Here's what their lesson layout looks like:
